Welcome to The Maritime Union of India
The Maritime Union of India is registered under the Trade Union Act 1926 with the Registrar of Trade Union. Though the Indian Merchant Navy Officers’ Association as it was called then, was founded on December 3, 1939, it was not until March 30, 1941 that it was registered under the Indian Trade Union Act. The name was changed to "The Maritime Union of India" on March 31, 1944.
The Maritime Union of India represents the Merchant Navy Officers who are the members of this Union. We are affiliated to the International Transport Workers
As members of the Union seafarers enjoy a host of benefits by virtue of the various affiliations and facilities provided by MUI
MUI's constant efforts to standardise agreements resulted in agreements with INSA , ITF & IBF.
In 1944 the Union received sanction from the Central Government to publish a Bulletin resulting in the birth of 'Oceanite'
