| News of hijack of M.T. Savina Caylyn managed by V ship India Pvt. Ltd. was received at orning at 0520 L.T. of Tuesday, 08 February 2011 from Italian Coastguard Headquarters in Rome. The vessel's position was Lat. 12.14 N and Long. 065.23 E (approximately 570 miles west from nearest Indian Coast). An armed skiff with 5 armed pirates fired at the vessel with rifles and RPGs. Master then immediately resumed evasive maneuvering in an attempt to evade and prevent pirates from boarding the vessel. The ship has been boarded by pirates now.
The vessel is an Aframax Petroleum Tanker with 17 Indian and 5 Italian seafarers on board. It is carrying a cargo of 87,000 tons of crude oil. The tanker was on its way from the Sudanese port of Bashayer on 02 February to Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, with an ETA of 16 February. Italian patrolling warships Zeffiro and Atlanta Coalition are proceeding on-site for assistance.
